Drop-down field

The Drop-down field icon (down chevron in a circle) drop-down field stores one of the values defined in the field's options list. For example, the training session a user has signed up for.

Drop-down field object

The values in the options list can come from one of the following:

  • Custom list: A static list of values that you enter when defining the drop-down field.

  • Table: A table where each record represents a value in the options list. As records in the table are added, edited, or deleted, the options list for this drop-down field changes dynamically.

Note  After the first time data is stored in a drop-down field, you can't change whether the options come from a custom list or a table.

What's this in FileMaker?

Drop-down fields in Claris Studio are similar to fields that use a drop-down list (or pop-up menu) control style and a value list in FileMaker Pro apps, except that users can't add values to the options list in a drop-down field while entering data.

When connected to your Claris Studio data source, FileMaker Pro apps can access these fields as FileMaker text fields. Though the drop-down field's options list is available as a value list in FileMaker Pro, you must set the control style and assign the value list when you add the corresponding field object to a layout in FileMaker Pro.
