The Group object icon (dotted-line square) group object contains a collection of objects, making it easier to place, configure, and control the objects as a unit.

What's this in FileMaker?

Group objects in Claris Studio are similar in concept to grouping objects in FileMaker Pro. Claris Studio adds the idea of inheritance from the group and enabling users to expand or collapse a group of objects.

A group object can:

  • Specify a Record data option that can be inherited by the objects within. For example, if set to From Calculation, you can specify a formula to calculate the record ID used by all the fields in the group.

  • Specify whether the objects are horizontally or vertically oriented and how the labels are aligned.

  • Be collapsed and expanded by users.

  • Show or hide all objects within it by setting the group's visibility condition.

  • Display a title and borders around the objects inside.

Note  Group objects can be added only to custom views.
