Claris FileMaker Go is available on the App Store for iPhone and iPad. For more information about the new features and changes shared with FileMaker Pro, see FileMaker Pro Release Notes.
Version 21.1.1 – November 2024
New features and enhancements
-
This release adds support for iOS and iPadOS 18.
Note This version of FileMaker Go won't install on iOS or iPadOS 16 or earlier. You must upgrade to a later version of iOS or iPadOS before you can install this version of FileMaker Go. For the supported versions of iOS and iPadOS, see Claris FileMaker 2024 Technical Specifications.
-
When using FileMaker Go on an iPad that supports Stage Manager, you can now scan barcodes while FileMaker Go is in a window instead of only when it's full screen.
-
With support for Live Text in the Arabic language added in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15 Sequoia, the GetLiveText and GetLiveTextAsJSON functions now support language codes "ar-SA" and "ars-SA" as well.
-
Building iOS apps using the iOS App SDK for FileMaker 21.1.1 requires at a minimum the iOS SDK available for Xcode 16.
Addressed issues
-
After you clicked Sign in to FileMaker Cloud and the my.claris.com page appeared, if you went to the Home screen or switched to another app then returned to FileMaker Go (for example, to get a two-step verification code), the My Apps screen was displayed rather than the my.claris.com page, which could have prevented you from signing in.
-
In a popover with content that required scrolling to view, the off-screen content was cut off when attempting to scroll it into view on devices with small screens or when zoomed in.
-
When connecting to a FileMaker Server host that has the Filter databases in client applications option turned on, after exceeding the maximum number of sign-in attempts, FileMaker Go displayed a generic connection error message. Now, the error message explains that the account is locked and to try again in a few minutes.
-
In FileMaker Go, the Execute FileMaker Data API script step was very slow when accessing data in container fields. This caused the Photo Gallery add-on to display images very slowly.
-
Within a transaction, when the Show Custom Dialog script step was used, closing the custom dialog reverted the transaction.
-
When using the Insert from Device script step with the Insert from option set to Barcode, FileMaker Go scanned QR codes even when the QR Code barcode type was not selected.
-
When using the Insert File script step to insert a source file larger than 1 MB into a variable as the target, the file wasn't available in the variable in later steps.
-
After FileMaker Go was given full access to the iOS or iPadOS Photo Library and an image from the Photo Library was inserted into a container field, the GetContainerAttribute function didn't return values for the photo attributes of the image.
Version 21 – FileMaker Go 2024
New features and enhancements
Opening custom apps
-
To automatically open a custom app whenever you start FileMaker Go, you can now use Open at Startup. Either touch and hold a custom app icon and choose Open at Startup, or in Settings, turn on Open File at Startup and enter a file path. See Open a file at startup in FileMaker Go Help.
-
To open your favorite custom apps from your device's Home Screen, you can now add the FileMaker Go Favorites widget. See Work with files and hosts in FileMaker Go Help.
Script steps and functions
-
Using the Import Records script step, you can now import files in .csv, .tab, .mer, and .dbf formats in FileMaker Go. See Importing data in FileMaker Go in FileMaker Go Development Guide.
-
The Open URL script step can now open a page in the external web browser, instead of within FileMaker Go, if the new In external browser option is turned on. See Open URL in FileMaker Pro Help.
-
The Configure Local Notification script step now includes the Show when app in foreground option. The new option allows a notification alert to be displayed even when FileMaker Go is in the foreground. See Configure Local Notification in FileMaker Pro Help.
-
With support for Live Text in Thai and Vietnamese languages added in iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS Sonoma, the GetLiveText and GetLiveTextAsJSON functions now support these languages as well.
General
-
Image files in HEIC format are now supported in container fields.
-
Secure connection tunneling can now be enabled over port 443 instead of port 5003 between FileMaker Go and FileMaker Pro. See Enable HTTPS tunneling to hosts in FileMaker Go Help and FileMaker HTTPS tunneling in FileMaker Server Help.
-
All Claris FileMaker 2024 products have a new icon. Look for it in the apps, installers, .fmp12 file icons, and more.
iOS App SDK
-
Building iOS apps using the iOS App SDK for FileMaker 21.0.1 requires at a minimum the iOS 17 SDK included in Xcode 15.
Addressed issues
Context menu
-
When you touch and hold a custom app displayed as a large icon in My Apps, Favorites, Recents, or Hosts, the context menu didn't open. Therefore, you couldn't perform actions like signing in with an account different from the one saved in your keychain.
-
In My Apps, Recents, and Hosts, when you touch and hold a custom app, the context menu displayed both Favorite and Unfavorite actions, of which only one was possible.
-
In Favorites and Recents, when you touch and hold a hosted custom app, the context menu displayed Share and Rename actions, which weren't possible for hosted apps.
-
On the On My iPhone or On My iPad screen, when you touched and held a file that was not a custom app, the context menu included the Sign In action instead of the Open action.
Value lists
-
When you tapped a field that was set up to auto-complete using a value list, the value list was not displayed.
-
When signed in with a privilege set that allows modifying all value lists, a FileMaker Go user was not allowed to add items to a value list.
Container fields
-
When attempting to start an audio recording from a container field, the process had to be canceled and then restarted for the recording to begin.
-
On iPad, when you copied a CSV file and pasted it into a container field, the text in the CSV file was pasted into the field, not the file.
-
After you tapped a container field and selected a photo to add from the Photos app, FileMaker Go stopped responding under certain circumstances.
-
When a video file in a container field was set to start playing embedded in the field, the video started in full screen.
Onscreen keyboard
-
The onscreen keyboard disappeared, then reappeared when using Enter to leave a number field.
-
Concealed edit box fields incorrectly displayed the onscreen keyboard when the onscreen keyboard display option was disabled.
General
-
When you weren't signed in to iCloud, the On My iPhone or On My iPad screen didn't display the Files icon, so you couldn't transfer a file to FileMaker Go on your device.
-
Under certain conditions including low power mode and low memory, some actions such as taking a photo using the camera from within FileMaker Go or inserting an image or file in a container field caused some layout objects to no longer be visible.
-
Imported HEIC images converted to JPG were sometimes incorrectly exported as HEIC images.
-
The Configure Local Notification script step failed to run when system notifications were disabled and failed to send the NotificationNotAllowed value in the script parameter.

OmniOrb has been updated to version 4.3.0.
Addressed issues
-
When attempting to start an audio recording from a container field, the process had to be canceled and then restarted for the recording to begin.
-
Switching to Favorites and Recents tabs multiple times caused the title of the tab to disappear.
-
iOS 17, iPadOS 17: After starting a video playing inside a container field, changing to a different layout caused the video to display in the upper left corner. Now, the video continues to play out of view until you return to the original layout where it appears inside the container field.
This software updates FileMaker Go to version 20.2.1, introduces new features, and addresses issues. For information about the changes, see the FileMaker Pro Release Notes.
Software details

-
Pasting PDFs into container fields is now supported.
Addressed issues
Sign in with Apple
-
You were able to enter an inactive FileMaker Account to Sign in with Apple when "Hide My Email" option was selected.
-
When entering or pasting an Apple verification code, the code field text would not necessarily behave as expected.
-
Some Apple ID verification code entries were not visible when rotating iPhone out of landscape mode.
Container Fields
-
Inserting a file into a container field using a quick tap caused FileMaker Go to quit unexpectedly.
-
Files could not be imported into container fields if the iOS iCloud Drive was disabled.
Display
-
When a web viewer refreshed for a window in the background, the background window incorrectly gained focus.
-
Vertically centered fields incorrectly appeared to be aligned at the top during data entry.
-
The keyboard could not be used on an iPad in landscape orientation while a date field was active. Only the calendar drop-down was visible.
-
If a dropdown object was smaller than 31pt wide, the object would not display dropdown options.
Device Lock
-
FileMaker Go quit unexpectedly when the device locked while entering the account and password for a hosted file.
iOS App SDK
-
The iOS App SDK bundle version string was incorrect.
-
Apps compiled with iOS App SDK failed with the error "App Store Connect Operation Error: Incomplete Documentation Type Configuration".
APIs, technologies, or features to be deprecated
As FileMaker Go evolves, the list of supported technologies, APIs, and features will change. As part of this evolution, certain operating systems versions, hardware, and features may be deprecated in favor of newer ones. Although deprecation does not mean the immediate deletion of an item, you should migrate your solution away from deprecated technologies, because these technologies may be removed in a future version of the product.
